About Pastor Johnny

Johnny Janssen is proud to be part of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina at Columbia where he earned a B.A. in Religious Studies, a B.A. in Experimental Psychology, and an M.A. in Religious Studies. He graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2013, earning a Master of Divinity. He is currently working toward a Doctor of Ministry degree at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, focusing on identity and congregational revitalization.

Johnny is passionate about Biblical literacy/criticism, theological interpretation of Scripture, interfaith/ecumenical dialogue, and striving for social justice. He believes everyone is called to ministry.

How long have you served CHCPC? Summer of 2016!

Tell us about your family: I have a younger sister and two adorable nephews. Most of my family lives in South Carolina (where I was born and raised).

Who are people that inspire you? Those who have the courage to speak truth to power.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you? Despite my outward appearance, I’m fairly traditional in terms of my worship preferences. Love my hymns and liturgy!

​Do you have any weird quirks? Yes, I sometimes (unconsciously) mimic the speech of those I’m around!

What is your least favorite thing to do? The ministry of reminding…

Hidden Talent? Love hosting trivia and singing karaoke!

What makes you laugh? Every episode of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”

What is your biggest fear? Irreparable polarization between peoples
